The New Jersey Department of Education announced today that under the direction of the acting commissioner, Dr. Lamont Repollet, all New Jersey schools will stop serving pork beginning in the Fall of 2019.
New Jersey, with one of the largest Muslim populations in the US and one of the most left-leaning governments as well, is leading the way with consideration of the strict religious practices of a large portion of its student body.
Just as many schools do not allow peanuts or peanut products for the sake of children with life-threatening allergies, so we will also begin recognizing the prohibition of pork for students with religious requirements. From Dr. Repollet Memo to the school district.
Schools within New Jersey will need to replace all ham, pork, and bacon with other protein options such as tofu, halal meats, or bean and vegetable options so that all school children can feel “safe” with their food choices.
CAIR representative, Nihad Awad, believes that part of CAIR’s undertaking is to make sure that Muslims feel like American’s in every way and he is starting with small accomplishments like changing lunch menus in every state to get there. His goal is to have every school nationwide banish bacon by 2022.
